Disaster Management Department This department, which was previously called as the department of aid and operation, has been renamed to the Office for disaster in recent years. The department of the disaster is working in five main fields. Preparedness and response to the disasters. Preparedness responding disasters at the level of the villages. Emergency situations. The system of geographical information. The refugees and displaced people. By having the possibilities and capabilities the ARCS Disaster Management Department can respond to displaced people and refuges affected by natural and unnatural disasters like flooding, earthquake, drought and armed conflict. This department has trained thousands of volunteers in 28 provinces of the country to have duly response to disaster and has created the depots of assistance materials in five big provinces of the country ( Kabul, Kandahar, Nengharhar, Herat, and Balkh) and small depots in other provinces. Accurate surveys of the damages and casualties in the disaster affected areas are conducted and the affected people are assisted by the ARCS. This department has rendered and would like to render humanitarian assistances to the affected people of the natural and unnatural disasters. In addition to this activities, it also in deferent stages, offers humanitarian services to some other counties, affected by the unpleasant natural disasters. The stage not in disasters: The department for disasters takes steps to organize the programmes and manage the disasters. Identify the disaster prone areas and take action to train volunteers. Outline the promotion of the awareness of the people through conducting seminars and sessions to expand their capacity to struggle with disasters. Ensure contacts with all the aid organizations including the commission of the emergency situations, governors and district administrators. During the disasters: Survey of the casualties and damages in the affected areas and dispatch of the assistance materials such as (food, non-food, medical teams, assist in the rescue operation and evacuation, temporary shelter) Assist the provincial authorities to specify the casualties, damages and giving the necessary information on the needs.
